stitched

The STITCHED series, began as an experiment using my sewing machine to add a layer of texture to a batik technique I was intrigued by. The process led to various ways of creating pieces by incorporating the machine thread. In the free form style, and working intuitively, the works organically come to life within the lines created by the stitching. Other creations are derived from my sketch book's blind contour drawings, or from scrap pieces of colored paper with leftover paint on them  . The method on each style varies, sometimes stitching before painting to create the lines and others are stitched after the painting is complete to add texture. As the paper can only be wide enough to feed through the machine, the series includes smaller works (8x8"-18x20")
